At least one person is dead and another injured after Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo space tourism craft crashed in the California desert, according to reports.
NEWS Monarch Airlines completes £3.2bn Boeing order
Monarch Airlines today announced the confirmation of a narrow body fleet order with Boeing for a new generation fleet of 30 737 MAX 8s, worth more than $3.2 billion at current list prices. The order, originally announced at the Farnborough International Airshow in July, includes options for 15 additional 737 MAX 8s and marks the beginning of Monarch’s transition to an all-Boeing single-aisle fleet.
NEWS British Airways launches fresh assault on Air Passenger Duty
One of Britain’s fastest-growing taxes is 20 years old this week. Relentless rises in Air Passenger Duty mean that a family of four flying to a destination outside Europe will soon pay £284 in tax, compared with just £40 when the levy was introduced on November 1st, 1994. That seven-fold increase in APD has taken place while inflation has not even doubled over the same period.

NEWS International Airlines Group sees profits increase as Iberia continues recovery
International Airlines Group has upgraded its profit forecast after it reported a 30 per cent rise in third quarter profits. Operating profits at IAG - which owns both Iberia and British Airways - rose to €900 million in the three months to September 30th, up from €690m a year ago.
NEWS American Airlines to boosts London-Los Angeles services
American Airlines passengers can look forward to increased daily, direct services between London Heathrow Airport and Los Angeles International Airport when the world’s largest airline adds a new flight between the two cities beginning in March 2015. The new flight will be operated with the latest addition to American’s international fleet, the state-of-the-art, three-class Boeing 777-300ER.
NEWS Virgin Atlantic launches first airline pilot career programme
In a first for the airline, Virgin Atlantic has today announced its airline pilot career programme - The Virgin Atlantic Future Flyers Programme - offering potential pilots the chance to join the airline with no previous flying experience. The programme, run in partnership with CTC Aviation, is the only one in Europe that sees new recruits training on long-haul aircraft once they receive their license.
