UPDATE GIBRALTAR A statement from easyJet was read out by the BBC about the closure of Gibraltar airport

Quoting of daniel boettcher speaking to Maxine Mawhinney on the BBC News Channel at 13:15:

“Statement from easyJet that confirm the reports the closure of the airport is because of an involvement of one of their aircraft that was due to be leaving from Gibraltar for Gatwick.

The flight was delayed due to a technical problem following the smell of smoke. the airline says in line of its standard procedures its been investigating prior to departure.

Passengers remained calm and are being looked after in the departure lounge.”
